Our recent featured speaker event “Self-Care, A Force for Good” with Ellen S. Wright and Laura Brucia Hamm from Hale Kipa was a lesson in how to strengthen our self-care so that we are a force for good to ensure people thrive.

Guest speakers
Laura Brucia Hamm is the Director of Development and Quality Improvement at Hale Kipa. She serves on several mental health and wellness task forces and committees including; Mental Health America of Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Board of Education, and Kāne‘ohe Elementary School. With more than two decades of experience in social services, she previously served as Executive Director of PATCH Hawaiʻi and as CEO at The Center for Families in Louisiana and co-founded FREE The Coalition to End Human Trafficking in NW Louisiana. She is currently involved in initiatives to further trauma-Informed and resilience work throughout the state of Hawai‘i with a primary emphasis focusing on schools.
Ellen S. Wright is the Chief Program Officer/Clinical Supervisor at Hale Kipa. Ellen has a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University in Honolulu. Ms. Wright did postgraduate study in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, through a year-long learning collaborative with the developers as a part of Project Kealahou. Wright s extensive experience in the social services field includes positions as a community-based counselor in a Title 1 school in Virginia and as an Adjunct Professor of Social Science and Teacher Education at Howard Community College in Maryland.
